Gill shines across Tests and ODIs
The Indian skipper enjoyed a remarkable June, starring in both the one-off Test and the ODI series against Afghanistan.
Gill began the month with a commanding 126 in India’s innings victory in the one-off Test in New Chandigarh, registering his 11th Test century with an innings that featured 15 boundaries and a six.
He then carried his form into the ODI series, amassing 238 runs in just two innings. After scoring a brisk 84 off 66 balls in the series opener in Dharamshala, Gill followed it up with a sublime 154 from 110 deliveries in Lucknow.
Despite struggling with severe cramps during his knock, Gill accelerated in the latter stages to steer India to victory. His performances earned him both the Player of the Match and Player of the Series awards as India completed a 3-0 clean sweep with a win in Chennai.
Hossain and Smith complete the shortlist
Bangladesh all-rounder Mossadek Hossain enjoyed a dream return to international cricket after four years, playing a pivotal role in his team’s historic 2-1 ODI series victory over Australia.
Hossain scored an unbeaten 86, claimed two wickets and took a stunning catch in the opening ODI to help Bangladesh register only its second-ever ODI win over Australia. He finished the series as Bangladesh’s leading run-scorer with 157 runs and was named Player of the Series.
Meanwhile, New Zealand pacer Nathan Smith impressed during the Black Caps’ 2-1 Test series triumph over England despite leading an inexperienced pace attack.
Smith claimed a series-high 16 wickets, including a match-winning 6/70 at Lord’s, and was named Player of the Series for his outstanding performances.
